Position Overview:
DC Industries is seeking a Field Technician to support the commissioning of lighting control systems on new construction and renovation projects. This role involves onsite setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of advanced lighting technologies, acting as a third-party commissioning contractor.
You will work closely with electrical contractors and electricians to resolve hardware issues, configure systems, and ensure compliance with design specifications and performance standards. The role requires a hands-on technical background and a willingness to travel extensively across Canada, United States and internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commission systems using 0-10v, iCAN, RS232, DALI, Zigbee, DMX & sACN protocols.
- Utilize laptops and specialized software to identify, configure, and test all installed devices.
- Collaborate with onsite electrical contractors to troubleshoot and correct deficiencies.
- Install and configure control servers within lighting panels.
- Verify system functionality through rigorous testing and validation.
- Conduct final walk-throughs with clients to obtain sign-off and officially close out the project.
- Travel to job sites across Canada and internationally (approx. 90% travel).
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficient in Windows OS and Linux OS environments.
- Familiarity with commissioning and diagnostic software tools.
- Solid understanding of networked systems and protocols (particularly DALI).
- Strong problem-solving skills in technical and field-based environments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with tradespeople and clients.
- Ability to work independently in diverse environments and under varying site conditions.
Additional Assets:
- Experience with a variety of lighting control systems (i.e. Cooper, Leviton, Current & ETC).
- Knowledge of low-voltage systems and electrical schematics.
- Bilingualism (English/French) for Canadian and international sites.
Additional Details
Responsibilities
- BAS Commissioning (Fifth Light Technology Lighting Control Systems)
- Keeping detailed documentation tracking progress and deficiencies
- Safety awareness in the field for onsite hazards and electrical safety
- Launching the completed sections panel to run the lighting control system
- Ability to travel to the USA and across Canada for 2 – 3 weeks at a time
- Local travel to sites
- Completing weekly time logs and expense reports
- Working solely on projects and with a group
- Safety orientated when onsite
- Reliable to meet strict deadlines when planning schedules for onsite work
- Able to be on call one week a month for the 24/7 service support and respond to client issues within 24 hours (travel may be required)
